Thala Varalaru
Pallava King Mahendra Varman persecuted Appar for his devotion to Shiva. After surviving multiple punishments, Appar was tied to a heavy stone and thrown into the sea. Chanting "Namah Shivaya," the stone floated like a raft and drifted to this shore. The village name Karaiyerivittakuppam honors this miracle.
